5/27/2023 0 Comments Where to put concealer![]() “Having the centre of the face naked really creates this optical illusion that you’re not wearing anything,” explains the pro. If you’ve got some redness on your nose, you can dab a little on with your finger to cancel that, but for the most part, try to leave your nose as bare as possible. “My number one tip ever is don’t put foundation on the nose,” says Violette. ![]() Here, Serrat shares more tips for looking “enhanced and glowy and luminous,” and just generally more, you know, French. “The idea is to have this natural skin as much as possible, just enhanced and glowy and luminous.” That pretty much sums up our collective makeup goals. Serrat wanted to create a texture that felt “like fresh air,” she says, just like the iconic bronzer. “So when asked me to work on this, I was like, ‘Do you know my dislike of foundation?’ And they said, ‘Yeah, that’s why we really want you to take this on and make the foundation that would be most aligned with what you like.’ So it was a really fun project and today it’s here and I’m super proud of it.” Historically, the pro hasn’t been a huge proponent of foundation, preferring a more bare complexion. “There are so many foundations on the market now that if we launch one, it has to be very different-it has to be perfect,” says Serrat. Part of her gig at the storied beauty house is helping develop new products, such as the brand’s latest (and highly anticipated) launch: Terracotta Le Teint, a foundation inspired by Guerlain’s famed Terracotta, the world’s first-ever bronzing powder. With her distinctly Parisian approach-both light of hand and of heart-she’s amassed a cult following (she’s so popular, she goes solely by her first name), has built a highly successful eponymous brand and was tapped by Guerlain to become its creative director of makeup. In the world of beauty, no one better embodies that philosophy than Violette Serrat. Looking truly like yourself, exuding confidence and having fun with your style rather than aiming for perfection: Those are the kind of things that never go out of style. "Most of these products are designed to last for two years unopened on the store shelf, but it's probably a good idea to use them up within six to nine months after opening. There’s a reason the allure of the insouciante French woman-her hair mussed up just so, her outfit chic yet uncontrived-continues to endure despite the ever churning trend cycle. "Changes in color are often indicative of problems in the product-microbial growth, oxidation-so that's a good indicator that it's time to buy a new tube," Hammer says. Likewise, if at any point you notice your concealer is looking more orange or just doesn't match your skin like it used to, toss it. It might not smell right, or it might feel oily, or grainy, or have other issues." All are signs it's time for a fresh start. "Over a long period of time, some will start to break down and may darken or appear discolored, or even separated," says cosmetic chemist Jim Hammer. This won't kill you, but it also means you're probably no longer getting the lovely results that made you select this formula in the first place. Keeping your concealer for past its expiration dateīecause concealer is often administered in tiny doses, it's possible to (embarrassingly) realize you've been using the same tube for.er, years. Becca has one made specifically for your undereyes.Ħ. And opt for a lightweight, translucent brightening powder instead of anything heavy, matte, and oil-absorbing. You can still set your undereye concealer with powder if needed, but do so sparingly, avoiding the outer eye, where it can settle into and play up fine lines. Note, though: One area to be cautious with powder is around your eyes. "In this case, less is more and you can skip the powder." "Some pimples can be drier-the skin around or on it, because it's been treated with salicylic acid, so adding powder may make it look especially dry," Quynh says. Once you start treating the pimple (and picking at it, because you never learn), you may want to skip this step. "With newer pimples the skin can be taut, so setting concealer with powder is important so it won't move," says Quynh. (We love Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder.) It's the best way to lock that color in place so it's going nowhere. Sometimes even the most stay-put concealer needs a crucial final step: powder. Not setting your concealer with powderĪs with everything pertaining to looking good, it's all about layering.
